Shimla is a year-round holiday destination popular with families and couples. Here’s a seasonal break up so you can plan your trip accordingly:   March to June: This is a popular tourist season in Shimla as the weather is quite pleasant and perfect for outdoor activities. The temperature is comfortable and usually varies between 15°C and 30°C. If you are into adventure sports then this is the ideal time to try paragliding, trekking, camping and rafting. Make sure you carry comfortable walking shoes for going around the Mall Road. Summers are mild and you might need light woolens, especially at night.   July to September: This is not peak season in Shimla because of heavy rainfall and occasional landslides. But monsoon brings out the lush character of the hill station. Also, since few people like to travel to the hill station at this time, hotel prices drop down considerably and you can find great deals on really good properties.   October to February: This is again a popular season

पुरातन कथनानुसार भगवान   श्रीराम   के अनुज लक्ष्मण   ने इसी स्थान पर जूट की रस्सियों के सहारे नदी को पार किया था। स्वामी   विशुदानंद   की प्रेरणा से   कलकत्ता   के सेठ सूरजमल झुहानूबला ने यह पुल सन् 1889 में लोहे के मजबूत तारों से बनवाया, इससे पूर्व जूट की रस्सियों का ही पुल था एवं रस्सों के इस पुल पर लोगों को छींके में बिठाकर खींचा जाता था। लेकिन लोहे के तारों से बना यह पुल भी 1924 की बाढ़ में बह गया। इसके बाद मजबूत एवं आकर्षक पुल बनाया गया। [1] इस पुल के पश्चिमी किनारे पर भगवान लक्ष्मण का मंदिर है जबकि इसके दूसरी ओर श्रीराम का मंदिर है। कहा जाता है कि श्रीराम स्वयं इस सुंदर स्थल पर पधारे थे। पुल को पार कर बाईं ओर पैदल रास्ता बदरीनाथ को तथा दायीं ओर स्वर्गाश्रम को जाता है। केदारखंड   में इस पुल के नीचे   इंद्रकुंड   का विवरण है, जो अब प्रत्यक्ष नहीं है।

The small town, with a population of 8,096, [1]   is the beginning of an ancient   trade route   to   Ladakh   and from there over the   Karakoram Pass   on to   Yarkand   and   Khotan   in the   Tarim Basin . It is a popular tourist destination and serves as the gateway to Lahaul & Spiti district as well as   Leh .

Shimla is also a district which is bounded by   Mandi   and   Kullu   in the north,   Kinnaur   in the east, the state of Uttarakhand   in the south-east, and   Solan and   Sirmaur . In 1864, Shimla was declared as the   summer capital   of British India , succeeding   Murree , northeast of   Rawalpindi . After independence , the city became the capital of   Punjab   and was later named the capital of Himachal Pradesh. It is the principal commercial, cultural and educational centre of the hilly regions of the state. As of 2011, the city had 171,817 permanent residents, and was one of the least populous   capital cities in India.
